Opening Film Research

Layer Cake

Frame Breakdown

Shot 1: This is the establishing shot to the movie and is a medium shot of a van. The clip starts in with a black background which slowly  faded out and than the van blows up. The music is Playing in the background is layer cakes own soundtrack  that they created. The shot doesn't give away much but the clever use of camera shot, zooming out sets the scene for which the actors later use as a shootout. The uses of the Daniel Craig's monologue adds to the feel of opening. Makes it unique opening compared to the other films i have researched.

Shot 2:  In this shot one of the men  is shooting at people after the van is blown up. In this shot  the use of slow motion feels turn a very hectic shooting much clam, This is strange in a action thriller . This could be a indication of what the movie is like, guns, shooting people, therefore establishes the genre.

Shot 3: This shot is a medium/long shot as it shows the shoulder and above of the guy and the two girls on his side. I chose this shot as its quite elaborate as it shows the type of mise-en-scene and gives us a clue of what the movie might be about.

Shot 4: This shot is of the people in the prison, the type of shot is very unique as its not a over the shoulder, but it is at shoulder hight. The camera moves across the room panning across, this is a different shot type that is hard to do.

Shot 5: Shot five shows the drugs in the shop, and what it would be like if they were commercially sold. The shot type is also a panning shot as it follows Daniel Craig walking and talking through the shop about how they are in the wrong business. When Daniel Craig is walking the items in the background are changing , this is Daniel Craig dream of changing times.
